Elder Preston Fowlks - Guatemala City East Mission Sept 4, 2017: Week 54

hello everyone!!

this week was pretty wild.

so on the 15th of september was the independence day here in guatemala!! basically like the 4th of july, just guatemalan style hahah!! but it was super awesome! there were tons of parades and fireworks and all sorts of stuff! it was fun to see all the people here being super patriotic.

so our leaders have asked us to go out to the "aldeas," or like the villages here close to san luis! so we were super busy with that all this week. its pretty crazy to go to these aldeas.. because some of them dont even have light!!! they still use candles for their light. that was WILD to me!!

the awesome part of the aldeas is everyone lets us into their house to teach them!! they dont understand really well, so we have to teach super slow and super simple, but its awesome.

we had quite an interesting experience in an aldea called los olivos, and im gonna tell yall about it right now.

so we got to the gate of a house and yelled so that the people knew we were there!! after we yelled an old grandpa told us to come in. so we went in super pumped to teach these new people! we entered into the house, and his wife was there just cooking beans and corn without a shirt! like nothing. bare. It was the worst thing I've ever seen. after like 10 minutes, i think she finally realized that we were missionaries teaching about Jesus Christ and decided to get dressed. it was quite the interesting experience!

so this week we have changes!! im leaving san luis! i loved every second here, but i am ready for a new adventure! im going to the capital, to work in a new area called minerva!! im going to be opening the area with another newbie! so that will be fun to train again. and i also have the chance to be district leader there! im excited for this new opportunity!!
